TGIM!
Team, we can learn
SO MUCH IF WE LISTEN.
ESPECIALLY IF WE LISTEN TO OUR CONTRACTORS, AND THEN ADJUST ACCORDINGLY.
Friday I was at a meeting with a builder going over various ways we can improve.
Basically we were complaining about a cheap product we used that the builder requested that we were having service problems with.
Then he used words that MADE THE MEETING GRIND TO A HALT.
WHY WOULD YOU SELL IT TO ME?
YOUR JOB IS TO TELL ME WHAT TO USE.
IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE PRODUCT OR SUPPLIER, TELL ME YOU CAN’T.
YOU ARE OUR TRUSTED ADVISER.
And then the project manager jumped in…
“We the builder are the homeowner’s trusted adviser as well. They build with us because they trust us. We do know more than the homeowner. They don’t always like to hear that, but we are the experts. As a supplier, you are the expert. Tell us what we NEED to hear, not necessarily what we WANT to hear.”
OMG. Mind blown.
Did you all hear this… will you take this to heart? Makes perfect sense. So don’t live in fear, be patient and kind, but speak THE TRUTH.
IT’S THE BEST FOR ALL OF US.
If it’s an inferior product, something we don’t specialize in, lead times are longer than we can honestly make, the schedule won’t work, etc… BE THE TRUSTED ADVISER. BE BETTER. BE DIFFERENT. BE DREXEL.
FACIL,
Joel
